Filmmaker Mukesh Bhatt criticizes the current Bollywood system

Mahesh Bhatt’s brother Mukesh Bhatt said that Hindi filmmakers have failed to adapt.

Filmmaker Mukesh Bhatt recently spoke about his recent performance Bollywood The films rocked the box office and criticized the current system of Bollywood. Many big names like Prithviraj, Runway 34, Dhaakad and Ultimate have failed to make an impact at the box office in recent times. Although films like Gangubai Kathiawadi or Bhool Bhulaiyaa managed to draw crowds in theatres, South Indian films have mainly attracted most of the audience.

Mahesh Bhatt’s brother Mukesh Bhatt said that Hindi filmmakers have failed to adapt. Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, he said, “The narrative must change. OTT has come to the fore due to the pandemic. Audiences now know more about the quality of content. You cannot provide them with the material they were being given before the pandemic. We’re done with that kind of narrative. We have to change with the times. Generations are changing and if you don’t change you will be left behind. What is happening in Bollywood right now is that people are making setups, not films. Setups don’t work, movies work.”

He further added, “No one is making a film now. They are all doing business. Make so much, sell for so much and make so much more (make this much, sell this much and save money). This is going to be a con game. We never used to do this. We’d be like ‘the story excites us so let’s make it up’! That honesty (honesty) is gone,” he said.

On the work front, Mukesh Bhatt last co-produced the film Sadak 2 under the banner of Vishesh Films. The film was directed by his brother Mahesh Bhatt and starred Mahesh’s daughter Alia Bhatt, Sanjay Dutt and Aditya Roy Kapur.
