The BJP’s two-day national executive meeting began on Monday with the focus on elections to nine states due this year, which look like semi-finalists to next year’s Lok Sabha polls.

Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the event, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman hit out at the opposition for running a ‘negative’ campaign against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“The opposition relentlessly launched a negative campaign against the BJP and used abusive language to attack the Prime Minister on several issues including Pegasus, Rafale deal, money laundering, Central Vista, demonetisation etc.

The Finance Minister said, “All these cases were fought in court and ruled in favor of the central government. The Supreme Court crushed the negative campaigns of the opposition and exposed them through legal responses.”

On extending the tenure of BJP president JP Nadda, he said, “There was no discussion on that.”

He said, “In the national executive meeting today, the party’s activities in Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya and Karnataka were briefed. The chief ministers of Karnataka and Tripura also attended the meeting along with their respective state party presidents.”
