Paul Valthaty announces retirement from first-class cricket, thanks IPL teams for opportunity

Paul Valthaty has officially announced his retirement from first class cricket. He is best known and remembered for his blistering knock of 120 not out off 63 balls against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League.IPL) while playing for Punjab Kings. He formally informed about his retirement by sending an e-mail to Mumbai Cricket Association secretary Ajinkya Naik.

According to Times of India, Paul Valthaty thanked BCCI and MCA for giving him the opportunity to play in IPL and domestic cricket during his career. In his email, Valthaty acknowledged the fact that he could not play for India but was grateful for the memories he made in his short career with an eye injury. He also said that the most memorable moment of his career was the brilliant IPL century which impressed many.

“I am writing to formally announce my retirement from first-class cricket. I look forward to representing India Blue, India Under-19 and the Mumbai Senior team and many more teams of all ages in the Challenger Trophy in my career. Was fortunate and proud.”Group Teams I would like to take this opportunity to thank BCCI and MCA who have always supported me and many cricketers like me,” Valthaty wrote in his mail.

Paul Valthaty played five first-class and four List A matches in his career, besides playing 34 T20 matches, 23 of which came in the Indian Premier League. Not only Punjab Kings, but he also played for the inaugural champions Rajasthan Royals during his career. He didn’t have a good career either side of an IPL century, scoring only 120 runs in FC cricket and 74 runs in the List-A format. In 34 T20 matches, he managed to score 778 runs with one century and three fifties.
