‘Pathaan’ Posters Torn, Burnt Outside Cinema Halls in Bihar’s Bhagalpur

BhagalpurPosters of the film ‘Pathan’ were torn and burnt outside a cinema hall in Bihar’s Bhagalpur on Tuesday, a day ahead of its release. Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathan’ film to be screened at Bhagalpur’s Deepprabha Cinema Hall. The youths of Hindu organizations tore the posters in the cinema hall and set them on fire and raised slogans ‘Film Chalega Hall Jalega’. The youth said that Hindutva cannot be compromised. Bhagalpur including the whole of India,” said members of the Hindu outfit.

The members of the organization said that if Pathan was shown in any cinema hall in Bhagalpur, it would be strongly opposed. Manager Lalan Singh told that some anti-social elements have burnt the posters opposing the film. He further said that the application has been given to the local police station and SP and the administration has assured to provide security. Right-wing activist Satya Ranjan Bora on Monday filed a police complaint against Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Pathan’ at Geetanagar police station. ‘Pathan’ got embroiled in controversy after the release of his song ‘Besharam Rang’.

On 5 January, members of the Bajrang Dal, part of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), created a ruckus at the Alpha One Mall in Vastrapur, Ahmedabad during the promotion of the film. Members of Bajrang Dal tore photographs of Shah Rukh Khan and his co-stars during their protest. The protesters also threatened the mall authority that if the film was released, they would launch an even fiercer protest. Protesters were captured on video damaging mall property. In a video shared by the VHP, protesters can be seen raising slogans and tearing posters and large cut-outs of the star cast of `Pathan`.

The controversy started after Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra raised his objection to a song from the film released as `Besharam Rang`. Mishra said, “Prima facie the costumes of the song are objectionable. It is clearly visible that the song of the movie ‘Pathan’ has been shot with dirty mentality.”
