Passengers can be deboarded, declared ‘unmanned’ for violating COVID norms: DGCA – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Airlines may declare a passenger as ‘unruly’ for violation of COVID-appropriate behavior, including refusal to wear a mask.
The DGCA, while giving a strong worded order, reminded the airlines and airport authorities to strictly follow the COVID protocol.
This comes amid a spurt in cases in some parts of the country, including Mumbai.
Here are the highlights of DGCA’s order on Wednesday-
for airlines
*Ensure that passengers wear a mask during the journey
* Make travelers aware of COVID-appropriate behavior through displays on websites, travel agents, call centers and airports
* Make regular announcements to raise awareness about wearing masks, hand hygiene, etc. while traveling
*Arrange for additional masks if needed
* Do not allow boarding of a passenger who refuses to wear a mask or violates the COVID protocol
* Declare a passerby as ‘furious’ for violating the covid protocol in flight
for airports
*Security personnel only allow passengers to wear masks inside the airport premises
*Make regular announcements regarding COVID-appropriate behavior
* Penalize a passenger for not wearing a mask or hand it over to security agencies for further action
* Make adequate arrangements for hand sanitizer, dispenser
The country has seen a spurt in daily fresh cases in the past few weeks after a sharp and steady decline since the beginning of the year. Major centers like Mumbai, and some southern states like Kerala are leading the latest increase in numbers.
