New Delhi: The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) on Friday said domestic wholesale sales of passenger vehicles (PV) in the country declined by 19 per cent in November as semiconductor shortages impacted vehicle production and then deliveries to dealer partners. Is.

According to a statement by the auto industry body, passenger vehicle dispatches last month stood at 2,15,626 units, down 19 per cent from 2,64,898 units in November 2020.

Similarly, total two-wheeler sales last month declined by 34 per cent to 10,50,616 units from 16,00,379 units in the year-ago period.

Total three-wheeler dispatches in November 2020 stood at 22,471 units, which is 7 per cent lower than 24,071 units.

Last month, total automobile sales across categories declined to 12,88,759 units as against 18,89,348 units in the year-ago period.

“The industry is facing headwinds due to global semiconductor shortage. In the festive season, the industry was hoping to make up for lost ground, but sales in the month of November 2021 were the lowest in seven years for passenger vehicles, the lowest in 11 years for two-wheelers and the lowest in 19. Year for three-wheelers,” SIAM Director General Rajesh Menon said in a statement.

He added that amid the growing threat of the new COVID variant, Omicron, the industry is actively ensuring the safety of employees and monitoring any supply chain disturbances.
