Parliamentary panel likely to question SEBI chairman on NSE scam

new Delhi: SEBI chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch will appear before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance on Tuesday on regulatory issues related to capital markets and may be questioned about the recent NSE scam, sources said on Sunday.

According to a notice issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, the panel headed by former Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha has called Buch to consider regulatory issues related to the initial public offering, international financial services centers and alternative investment funds.

Committee sources said the members would also question the Sebi chairman about the recent National Stock Exchange (NSE) scam, in which several of its top executives, including former chief executives Chitra Ramakrishna and Ravi Narain, are being probed.

When contacted, Sinha said Butch has been called by a parliamentary committee to deliberate on the orderly functioning of the market in the recent volatility and turbulent cash flows.

Sources said the committee, which includes its members former prime minister Manmohan Singh, former Bihar finance minister Sushil Modi and several lawyer-cum-politicians, will question the Sebi chairman over the recent scam in the NSE.

Recently, the panel was awarded for being the best Parliamentary Committee.

This will be the second meeting of SEBI officials with the parliamentary panel last week. He also appeared before the panel on 30 March.
