According to officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, IATA, the trade association of the world’s airlines, has expressed its inability to change the code without “reasonable reason primarily relating to air safety”.

IATA also stated that in accordance with Resolution 763, the allocated space codes are permanent and that a strong justification is needed to change it, primarily related to air security. As per aviation norms, IATA allots station codes to airports.

The ministry told the panel, “The GAY code for Gaya has been in use since the operation of this airport, therefore, without any justifiable reason, mainly related to air security, IATA decided to change the code for Gaya airport.” expressed incapacity.” This is mentioned in the report of the panel presented on Friday.
