Parliament LIVE Updates: President Droupadi Murmu will address the joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha at the Parliament today. This will mark the President’s first address after the formation of third term of the BJP-led NDA government.
The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha started on June 24 and the Rajya Sabha’s first session will commence today.
Earlier on Wednesday, NDA nominee Om Birla was elected as the Lok Sabha speaker for the second time. In his first address to the house after being elected, he remembered the “dark days of Emergency”, which later received praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi was also felicitated by Congress MPs for being appointed as the Leader of the Opposition. In his Lok Sabha address, Gandhi also congratulated Speaker Birla and said he hopes the opposition leaders will be allowed to speak in the House this term.
