Lok Sabha Speaker Elections LIVE: The election for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker is scheduled for Wednesday, setting the stage for both the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government and the opposition. This will be the first election for the speaker’s post since 1976.
The BJP has nominated Om Birla for another term as Lok Sabha Speaker, while the Congress has nominated Kodikunnil Suresh, who has represented Kerala’s Mavelikara constituency for eight terms.
Top leaders of the opposition bloc held a key meeting at Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence on Tuesday night, where they discussed the strategy for Wednesday’s election.
Both parties have issued a three-line whip to their respective MPs, instructing them to be present in the House on Wednesday from 11 am onwards
In addition, the Congress has informed Pro-tem Speaker Bhartruhari Mahtab that Rahul Gandhi will serve as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
