The Indian wrestling contingent’s hopes for Olympic glory take another embarrassing hit as India’s Antim Panghal was dominated by Turkey’s Zeynep Yetgil in the opening bout of the Women’s 53kg Freestyle at the Paris Olympics on Wednesday.
The 19-year-old Indian was absolutely outclassed by Yetgil in a 10-0 whitewash that lasted less than two minutes.
Yetgil went on for the attack right out the gate, trying to get one up on Pangha and pin her down, and she would successfully do so within the first minute, taking a 4-point lead over Panghal.
Panghal would try to slither her way through Yetgil’s defense, but would in turn only get lured into the Turkish’s trap, as she would pile the pressure and the points on Panghal, scoring another stellar points, before sealing the deal with the last two as she dragged Panghal the mat for a clean sweep.
Hailing from Bhagana village in Hisar district, Haryana, Panghal (53kg) earned India’s first quota from the 2023 World Wrestling Championships.

As per a report by ANI, she got the better of Sweden’s two-time European champion Jonna Malmgren to win the bronze medal in the women’s 53kg event at the World Wrestling Championships, held in Belgrade, Serbia last year.
As per an official release, the 19-year-old scripted history by becoming India’s first-ever U-20 world wrestling champion and successfully retaining the title next year.
Last year, Panghal bagged a silver medal at the Asian Wrestling Championships. She also became the youngest ever Indian to win a medal at the Senior World Wrestling championships,
