Neeraj started his evening with a foul throw on his first attempt but climbed up the rankings table with his second throw of the day. However, he produced three straight red-flagged attempts to follow up his legal second attempt.

Nadeem, who also started off with a foul throw on his first attempt, shocked the audience with his monstrous second throw, which not only gave him the gold but also the Olympic record.

Neeraj joined an elite list of Indian athletes to come away with medals from back-to-back editions of the Summer Game in individual events.

This was India’s fifth medal at the Paris Olympics and follows the bronze the Indian men’s hockey team managed to bag earlier in the day with their 2-1 win over Spain in the third-place playoff.

The other three medals of the Summer Games in France came thanks to the efforts of the shooting contingent as Manu Bhaker claimed the bronze in the 10m women’s Air Pistol individual event, before adding another bronze alongside partner Sarabjot Singh in the 10m Mixed Team Air Pistol event. Swapnil Kusale’s third-place finish in the 50m Rifle 3 position event bagged another bronze for the nation.
