It was certainly a mixed bag in terms of results for the Indian contingent on Day 9 of the Paris Olympics 2024. The headline event was certainly the Men’s Hockey team’s quarterfinal clash against Great Britain followed by Lakshya Sen’s battle against the defending champion Viktor Axelsen in the Badminton Men’s Semi-final.
In Hockey, PR Sreejesh led from the front as the veteran goalkeeper delivered when it mattered most against the Brits as the clash went down to a shootout.
In contrast, Lakshya Sen did not have much luck. Despite putting in a fine effort in the first set, the champion, Viktor was able to stage a comeback and take the first set. This gave him further momentum to take the win by dominating in the second set.

- Golf – Men’s Individual Stroke Play Round 4: Shubhankar Sharma shares the 40th spot with 283 points while Gaganjeet Bhullar ties at 45th with 285 points respectively.
- Shooting – Men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Qualification, Stage 1: Vijayveer Sidhu finishes at 9th with a score of 583-26x while Anish Bhanwala sits at 13th with 582-22x and both are eliminated.
- Shooting – Skeet Women’s Qualification Day 2: Maheshwari Chauhan finishes at 14th with 118 points while Raiza Dhillon takes the 23rd spot with 113 points. Both shooters will not take part in the final.
- Hockey – Men’s Quarterfinal: India beat Great Britain in a penalty shoot-out 4-2.
- Athletics – Women’s 3000m Steeplechase Round 1 Heat 1: Parul Chaudhary finishes 8th with a time of 9:23:39 and does not qualify for the final.
- Athletics – Men’s Long Jump Qualification Group B: Jeswin Aldrin finishes at 13th with a score of 7.61 and fails to qualify for the final.
- Boxing – Women’s 75kg Quarterfinal: Lovlina Borgohain is beaten by China’s Qian Li via split decision 1-4.
- Badminton – Men’s Semi-final: Lakshya Sen is defeated by Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen 20-22, 14-21. Sen will now take part in the bronze medal match.
- Sailing – Men’s Dinghy Race 7: Vishnu Saravanan finishes at 7th spot with a time of 39:53.
- Sailing – Men’s Dinghy Race 8: Vishnu Saravanan finishes at 24th spot with a time of 35:54.
- Sailing – Women’s Dinghy Race 7: Nethra Kumanan finishes at the 21st spot with a time of 44:04.
- Sailing – Women’s Dinghy Race 8: Nethra Kumanan finishes at 31st spot with a time of 50:04.
