Parameswaran Iyer: Know the new CEO of NITI Aayog who led India’s Swachh Bharat Mission

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) said Parameswaran Iyer, a former secretary in the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation and a retired civil servant who headed the Swachh Bharat Sanitation Mission, has been appointed as the new CEO of NITI Aayog. in a notification on Friday. His term will be of two years.

Iyer, 63, will replace current CEO Amitabh Kant, whose term ends on June 30. “Iyer has been appointed for a period of two years or until further orders, whichever is earlier, on the same terms and conditions as were applicable in respect of him. Amitabh Kant,” as per the notification.

Kant was appointed as the CEO of NITI Aayog on February 17, 2016, for a period of two years, which was extended till June 30, 2019. Kant was given an extension for two more years and then for one more year till June 2021. This year it has been extended till 30th June.

Kant is a 1980 batch retired IAS officer of Kerala cadre. During his tenure at NITI Aayog from 2016, Kant established himself at the top level of government in policy matters related to industrial development, technology and investment.

Who is Parameswaran Iyer?

Iyer is a 1981 batch IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre. He served 17 years and then took voluntary retirement in 2009 World Bank. He worked on the World Bank’s water and sanitation initiatives in Vietnam, China, Egypt, Lebanon and Washington.
