PAN To Become Inoperative If Not Linked To Aadhaar Before March 31; Check Step-By-Step Guide

PAN-Aadhaar Link: If you have not linked the two identity cards yet, then you will have to link your PAN Aadhaar Card before March 31, 2023. Otherwise, you will not be able to use it from April 1, 2023. Once the PAN card holders meet this deadline, the 10 digit unique alphanumeric number will become inactive.

“It’s urgent. Don’t delay, link today! As per the IT Act, it is mandatory for all PAN-holders who do not fall in the exempted category to link their Permanent Account Number (PAN) before March 31, 2023 It is mandatory to link PAN with Aadhaar. With effect from April 1, 2023, unlinked PANs become inoperative,” reads the public advisory issued by the IT department.

Individuals failing to link Aadhaar and PAN card will be barred from filing income tax returns or accessing PAN-related services by March 31, 2023.

As per the rule, the persons will have to pay a fine of one thousand rupees a punishment Or late fee for linking your PAN with Aadhaar. Till June 30, 2022, this fine was Rs 500. However, later on July 1, 2022, this fine was doubled.

How to link Aadhaar and PAN card through SMS

Step 1: Go to Text Message App

Step 2: Now type a message in UIDPAN format

Step 3: You just need to type: UIDPAN (space) 12-digit Aadhaar number (space) 10-digit PAN number

Step 4: You need to send SMS to either 567678 or 56161 from your registered number

Step 5: After sending the message you will receive a confirmation message regarding Aadhaar and PAN card linking

How to link PAN-Aadhaar card online

Now, if this process does not work, you can easily approach the Income Tax Department India Website.

Step 1: You can simply click on eportal.incometax.gov.in or incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in.

Step 2: Register yourself on the website. It is to be noted that your PAN or Aadhaar number will be set as the User ID.

Step 3: Use your User ID, Password and DOB to login to the portal

Step 4: A pop-up will appear on the screen or you can click on ‘Quick Links’ shown on the homepage

Step 5: Click on the Link Aadhaar option appearing on the homepage

Step 6: Now you can type your PAN and Aadhaar number and add your name as mentioned in your Aadhaar card

Step 7: Now check the box “I have only year of birth in Aadhaar card” if applicable

Step 8: Type captcha to verify

Step 9: After successful linking of Aadhaar and PAN card, you will get a confirmation notification.

Note: If the details in your Aadhaar card and PAN do not match, you will need to get your Aadhaar details updated to match your PAN records.
