Palash Sen Confirms He’s Set To Revive Euphoria’s Dhoom And Maeri: ‘Several Young Artistes…’ – News18

Palash Sen, known for his band Euphoria, believes independent music is making a comeback in India. He says it’s getting better, with more talk about it. “Definitely, independent music has become better. Everybody has started speaking about it. Young musicians don’t want to be slaves to the system,” the singer told Hindustan Times.

He said that there’s politics in the music industry and revealed that newer and ‘scared’ artists have shared their thoughts with him. The singer said, “Of course, but they cannot speak. People are scared. Somebody in control can turn around and say tu zyada bol raha hai tujhe kaam nahi dunga.”

Sen finds that in the United States, the music industry operates more favourably for artists. “In America, the film industry and the music industry are separate. Agar tumhe kuch karna hai toh apne industry mein reh kar karo na. If the film industry wants your music, it will buy it from you. It will not hire you like a slave ki baith ke ye banao.”

The musician plans to bring back his popular albums Dhoom and Maeri, teaming up with new musicians for the songs. “There are going to be several young artistes who will be appearing. We are already getting multiple musicians to be part of Euphoria’s legacy. I have never sold out to the film industry,” he said.

Earlier, in chat with News18, Sen, who’s been a torchbearer of independent music, had said that we need a fair way to compensate musicians in the country. “You can’t fight the monster. It’s very difficult. Last year, I started this petition called ‘India for Indie’ where I requested people to sign it so that I could take it to the government of India and the Prime Minister. I asked them, ‘When the pandemic hits, who’s looking after the freelance musicians?’ The first thing that people fall back on during these trying times is entertainment. A couple of people signed the petition but then you need money to reach everywhere,” he had said.
