Pak’s NA adopts motion seeking formation of committee to file case against Chief Justice

According to the Express Tribune newspaper report, the house unanimously accepted the resolution moved by Dr. Shazia Sobia, leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

Speaking in the National Assembly, Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said that the time has come for the Parliament to play its constitutional role in this situation.

Asif demanded the constitution of a parliamentary committee to probe the judiciary’s undue support to former Prime Minister Imran Khan as well as send a reference to the Supreme Judicial Council under Article 209 of the Constitution on the matter.

“In the 75-year history of the country’s judiciary, there have been incidents that have had a profound impact on the country, but recently a group in the judiciary has started supporting a political group,” he said.

Asif said, “The time has come for Parliament to make a reference of misconduct to the Supreme Judicial Council under the right given by the Constitution and the law.”
