‘Pakistani terrorists capture Afghan army camp in Nuristan, facilitate terrorists to join Taliban’

About 170 Pakistani militants have captured an empty Afghan National Security Force camp in the Kamdesh district of Afghanistan’s Nuristan province and are facilitating the transfer of about 50 militants daily from Pakistan to join the Taliban. That is stated in a report by Fabian Boussart, president of the Center of Politics. and foreign affairs.

In an opinion piece in the Times of Israel, Fabian Bossart writes that the inputs indicate Pakistani aid to the Taliban. As the Taliban intensify attacks on civilians and security forces, Afghan officials have accused Pakistan of aiding terrorists.

Last month, the Afghan Foreign Ministry said the Taliban military attack was backed by the Pakistani infamous spy agency – the ISI, which was trying to align the terrorist group with the Haqqani network and al-Qaeda.

Pakistani terrorist groups including Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Lashkar-e-Taiba, Lashkar Islam, Jaish-e-Mohammed, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, Tanzeem-ul-Badr and Lashkar Jangvi were fighting in eastern provinces such as Kunar, Nuristan and . Nangarhar and the Taliban and Haqqani were also fighting with the network in Ghazani, Logar, Khost, Paktia, Kandahar, Zabul and Helmand provinces.

The Pakistani military was reportedly assisting the Taliban in recruiting and setting up training camps in the eastern provinces of Afghanistan.

Afghan security forces assess that al-Qaeda was supporting the Taliban by setting up training centers in Uruzgan province and trying to take advantage of the current situation to expand its base in Afghanistan.

Earlier this month, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani also slammed Pakistan for not severing its ties with terrorist groups, saying intelligence reports had entered Afghanistan last month over 10,000 ‘jihadi’ fighters .

He said the Imran Khan-led Pakistan government had failed to persuade the Taliban to “seriously hold talks” in the ongoing peace talks.

Recently, former Afghan intelligence chief Rahmatullah Nabil also said that at least 1,000 Pakistani terrorists enter Afghanistan every day through the Spin Boldak border district, which was captured by the Taliban last week.

Afghan officials accused Pakistan of providing air support to the Taliban and threatening to retaliate if Afghan forces try to retake the Spin Boldak border area.

Despite ample evidence to the contrary, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that neither country was “responsible” for the Taliban’s actions. “What the Taliban is doing or not doing has nothing to do with us. We are neither responsible nor spokesperson for the Taliban.”

A UN report said that terrorists from various countries including Pakistan are active in Afghanistan. The 28th report of the UN Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team said that the Pakistan-based terror group TTP has maintained ties with the Taliban as about 6,000 of its terrorists are in the Afghan territory of the border.
