Pakistan Cricket The board is working on a project to host the annual three-nation T20 series alongside Australia and England in the ICC’s new Future Tours programme, which runs from 2023 to 2027.
According to a reliable source aware of developments, PCB chairman Ramiz Raja is expected to take forward the proposed plan at the ICC meetings to be held in Birmingham on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Games.
“The board is working on the plan and it is an alternative to the four-nation annual event that Ramiz had proposed at the last ICC meeting and which did not receive the necessary support from other members and has been postponed,” the source said.
He said that in view of the existing political and diplomatic relations between Pakistan and India And with the Indian Cricket Board’s lukewarm response to the four-nation proposal, the PCB has now dropped India from its new plan and only included Australia and England.
“Logistics and ways to find a shorter window for the tri-series will be worked out soon and Ramiz feels it can be done on an annual basis.”
The source added that Ramiz could also use any request from the Indian board to extend the window for the IPL at the ICC meeting so that he can also successfully sell his tri-series proposal.
“Ramiz shares a good personal relationship with BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly and other board chiefs and is confident that the tri-series plan can be completed by next year.”
The source said that Ramiz had taken the idea forward with top officials of the ECB and Cricket Australia while he was in Pakistan and the response was positive.
“Ramiz firmly believes that the future of bilateral series in the new FTP is not very bright.”
