As the clock ticked on at Florida tonight, unfortunately time ran out for Pakistan as well, who are now officially out of the contest for the second-place finish in Group A to make the Super Eight.

The tide did in fact not turn towards the way of Pakistan, but rather rained on their hopes as the Pakistan Cricket Team’s elimination from the T20 World Cup 2024 was confirmed with the calling-off of USA’s encounter against Ireland on Friday.

As rains hit Florida hard, the toss at the Central Broward Regional Park was delayed initially owing to heavy showers.

After an hour of tending by the groundsmen, umpires took to the pitch, to check conditions yet again, only to find damp spots in the pitch. This led to yet another inspection that was supposed to take place after another hour’s delay.

As the clock ticked on, unfortunately time ran out for Pakistan as well, who are now officially out of the contest for the second-place finish in Group A to make the Super Eight.

But, all hopes for Pakistan crashed finally as the match was called off and so was Pakistan’s outing in the T20 World Cup.

The suspended match, resulted in hosts USA receiving a point, taking their total to 5 points in 4 matches that included two wins over Canada and Pakistan respectively, plus a hard-fought loss against India.

Pakistan, who are situated at third place in the table with 2 points off 3 matches, had pinned all their hopes on a deflated Ireland side, which had incurred only two losses so far in the tournament, to steal the two points away from the hosts USA, and to provide a fighting chance for Pakistan to face off against none other than Pakistan itself in the last match of the group.

But, now with the suspension of the match, Pakistan can only muster up a best of 4 points even if they clinch a win over Ireland, and will indubitably fall short of USA.

The USA qualifying for Super 8 is the seventh instance of an associate team progressing from the group stage to the Super stage (8/10/12) in T20 World Cups after Ireland (2009), Netherlands (2014), Afghanistan (2016), Namibia (2021), Scotland (2021) and the Netherlands (2022).
