Imran Khan gets protective bail in corruption case

Earlier in the day, in a temporary relief, a special bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted protective bail to Imran Khan in a corruption case.

A division bench of Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb and Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz heard the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case, a day after the Supreme Court on Tuesday termed Khan’s arrest from the IHC premises as “illegal and illegal”.

Geo News reported that the IHC’s decision to grant Khan two weeks’ immunity from arrest came after he warned of unrest across the country if he was arrested again.

The 70-year-old Khan reached the court after 11.30 a.m. local time amid tight security and went through the biometric identification process and other formalities.

The hearing was delayed for about two hours due to security reasons.

Earlier, both the judges left the courtroom amid sloganeering by a lawyer in support of Khan. The troubled judges later announced that the hearing would resume after Friday prayers.

Dawn news reported that Khan’s lawyers had filed four additional requests, urging the IHC to add all cases against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and to direct authorities to provide details of cases filed against him .

Khan was arrested on Tuesday from the premises of the IHC in the Al-Qadir Trust case after the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) issued an arrest warrant against him.
