ISLAMABAD: British High Commissioner to Pakistan Dr Christian Turner has said that bilateral trade with Pakistan will double next year by 2025 and there is a consensus between the two governments in this regard.
Turner said the United Kingdom (UK) is Pakistan’s third largest global trading partner, with Pakistan’s exports reaching $2.1 billion at the end of last fiscal year. application At the birthday celebrations of Queen Elizabeth II here on Sunday.
The British High Commissioner said Pakistan is an important economic and trade partner of Britain and the two countries have a decades-long relationship.
He added that the UK Embassy in Islamabad was always facilitating visa and other immigration issues and last year, the UK had issued a record number of visas to Pakistanis.
He said the visa process is being simplified for the business community and people, which will enhance bilateral economic ties and people-to-people contacts.
Dr Turner said the 1.6 million Pakistani expatriates living in the UK were a major source of strengthening people-to-people ties between the two countries. He said, “Pakistanis living in the UK are playing an important role in the economic, trade, diplomatic and social activities of both the countries.
The High Commissioner said that there are about one lakh British nationals living in Pakistan, who are involved in various fields including trade. He said that the United Kingdom will extend full cooperation to Pakistan in education and other areas regarding youth.
The High Commissioner further said that educated and skilled youth will play an active role in the economic development of Pakistan and strengthen Pakistan-UK ties.
Dr Turner said the relationship between Pakistan and the United Kingdom was inspired by historical and cultural ties, which were getting stronger by the day.
