Padmarajan of ‘Election King’ from Salem, who contested against Vajpayee, files nomination for 230th time

With the filing of nominations for the Rajya Sabha elections beginning May 25, Padmarajan of ‘Election King’ became the first person to file his nomination papers yesterday.

Elections to 57 Rajya Sabha seats in 15 states, including Tamil Nadu, will be held on June 10, 2022, after the end of his term. In such a situation, Padmarajan has filed his candidature to contest the election of Rajya Sabha MP from Tamil Nadu. He later told reporters that he was contesting the elections to create awareness among the people that common man can contest and that he has spent Rs 50 lakh for filing nominations for every election in the country since 1988. Padmarajan has said that he aims to contest more elections and join Guinness World record.

63-year-old Padmarajan, popularly known as the Badshah of Elections, hails from Mettur in Salem district of Tamil Nadu. A homeopathic doctor, he has contested many elections in India. Padmarajan has also filed nomination papers to contest the presidential election.

The term of six members in Tamil Nadu ends on June 29. Elections for these seats will be held on June 10. Based on the representation of these six seats, DMK is likely to get 4 seats and AIADMK 2 seats. Tanjai Kalyanasundaram, KRN Rajesh Kumar and R Girirajan were declared Rajya Sabha candidates for DMK. Another seat was allotted to Congress. AIADMK and Congress parties are likely to announce the Rajya Sabha candidates soon.

He contested 5 Presidential elections, 5 Vice Presidents, 32 Lok Sabha, 50 Rajya Sabha, 72 Assembly elections, 3 MLC, 1 Mayor, 3 Chairman, 4 Panchayat President, 12 Councillors, 2 District Councillors, 3 Union Councillors, 6 Ward members, 30 directors, 1 general, said ‘election king’.

However, Padmarajan is an inspiration to BJP’s AN Radhakrishnan, who has lost all the elections he has contested so far. In all this, Kaka Joginder Singh aka Dharti Pakkar of Uttar Pradesh is leading. From 1962 till his death in 1998, he submitted nomination in every election but lost. He ran for Assembly elections, Lok Sabha, Speaker and Deputy Speaker and Councilor of Municipal Corporation during his lifetime. In all, he participated in 350 elections in 36 years. Also, the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru wanted a Sikh from Bareilly to contest for the Congress. When names were requested for this, Joginder Singh’s name was submitted, but he refused saying that he was not interested in becoming a representative of the people or joining any party rather than losing any election.
