The nominations for the Padmarajan Awards for the year 2022 have been announced. Award categories include best novel, story, direction and screenplay. Among all the nominees, Jallikattu director Lijo Jose Pellissery has also been selected for a prestigious award. Additionally, Sruthi Sharanyam, who recently made her feature directorial debut, also won an award.
Lijo Jose Pellissery won the Best Director award at the Film Awards for the film Nanapakal Nerathu Mayakkam. Filmmaker Sruthi Sharanyam also received the Best Screenplay Writer award for the film B32 Muthal 44 Vaare. Lijo Jose Pellissery is going to get a cash prize of Rs 25,000 and Shruti will be given the best screenplay writer award with a cash prize of Rs 15,000.
Speaking about other notable literary and film personalities, Malayalam litterateur M Mukundan won the best novelist award for his book Ningal, and VJ James, a Malayalam writer, was crowned best story writer for his short story Vellikash. VJ James was also nominated in the Best Story category. Along with a plaque and a citation, each author will be given a cash award of Rs 20,000 and Rs 15,000, respectively.
Novelist Sara Joseph chaired the literary panel, while poet-lyricist Manoj Kurur and journalist Pradeep Panangad were the other jury members who selected the winners of the literary awards. For the film awards, the committee was headed by music director Sreekumaran Thampi. The other members were film critic Vijaykrishnan and artistic director Dipika Suseelan.
The awards will be given in August, according to Padmarajan Trust president Vijayakrishnan, general secretary Pradip Panagad and secretary A Chandrasekhar. According to Mathrubhumi.com, the entry applications for Padmarajan Trust’s Film and Literature Awards 2022 have started from March 31 and the last date to apply is March 31. Both OTT releases and censored films were taken into consideration for these awards.
The Padmarajan Award is given for the greatest short story and best feature film made in Malayalam language. It was established by the Padmarajan Memorial Trust in honor of writer and filmmaker P Padmarajan.
