Over 15 Lakh Voters To Elect 100 Ward Councillors For City Corporation Today | Coimbatore News – Times of India

Coimbatore: With electronic voting machines (EVMs) being shifted to all the polling booths in the district, the elections for Coimbatore city corporation, seven municipalities and 33 town panchayats will begin from 7am on Saturday.
A total of 100 ward councillors for the city corporation, 198 councillors for seven municipalities and 513 councillors for 33 town panchayats will be elected. Of the 513 councillors in town panchayats, election will take place for only 504 posts as nine councillors have been elected unopposed.
As many as 15,65,158 voters will elect their 100 ward councillors for the city corporation in Saturday’s election.
As the and bribing voters were coming thick and fast, the administration district on Friday increased 10 additional squads for the city corporation and seven additional squads for municipalities.
An official from the city corporation said that all the necessary facilities in each and every polling booth have been completed. It has been ensured that drinking water, sanitation facility, security, adequate staff, wheelchairs for disabled people and markings on the roads to indicate distance for the polling booths are in place.
CCTV cameras have been installed in 169 sensitive booths for live-streaming, he said.
City corporation commissioner Raja Gopal Sunkara and election observer M Govinda Rao conducted an inspection on Friday at Ranganathapuram corporation school to check for the arrangements for the polls.
district collector GS Sameeran has instructed commercial establishments to declare paid holiday on Saturday to facilitate their employees to cast their votes.
People can cast their votes by showing either voter ID cards or Aadhar card, MGNREGA job card, bank passbook with photo, health insurance smart card issued by the labor department, driving license, pan cardsmart card issued by national population registry, passport, pension document with photo, employee ID card issued by the government and public sector undertakings and ID cards issued to members of state assembly, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha,
