PM Narendra Modi Praises India’s Tokyo Olympic Heroes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday lauded the Indian contingent of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, who were present at the Red Fort on the occasion of the nation’s 75th Independence Day.

During his speech, PM Modi urged the entire nation to appreciate his achievement and said that the nation is proud of him for making the country proud and his valor has inspired the future generation.

PM Modi said, “The athletes who made us proud at the Tokyo Olympics are amongst us today. I urge the nation to appreciate their achievement today. They have not only won our hearts but also inspired generations to come.” ”

India won seven medals this summer at the 2020 Tokyo Games – 1 gold, two silver and four bronze.

Neeraj Chopra won a historic gold medal in men’s javelin throw and became the first track and field athlete from independent India to top the podium at the Games. Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu and wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya won silver while shuttler PV Sindhu, boxer Lovlina Borgohain, wrestler Bajrang Punia and men’s hockey team won bronze.

India sent its largest ever contingent to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with 124 competitors, who competed in 18 disciplines. India finished 48th in the medal tally with 7 medals. India’s previous best medal tally was at the 2012 London Games where India won six medals – two silver and four bronze.
