Reflecting on his side’s defeat, the Proteas veteran admitted that they didn’t bat well enough to let KKR claw their way back into the match even though half the home team’s batsmen were back in the dugout.

“We set it up well with the ball, maybe around 100/5 from 13 overs, we gave away 20-25 runs extra on that wicket. Shardul played unbelievably well, he took the game away from us and the KKR leg-spinners bowled brilliantly,” du Plessis told the broadcasters in his post-match interview.

He further added, “They got on us, with Narine and Chakravarthy, they put pressure on us really well. Because that’s the nature of leg-spinners or mystery spinners.”
