RRR’s Naatu Naatu has been nominated for the 2023 Oscars.
Fans were rooting for SS Rajamouli to get a chance to showcase his work at the Oscars in 2017 with Baahubali 2. However, fate had other plans for the RRR director.
All eyes are on RRR at Oscars 2023. SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus is up for Best Original Song at the 95th Academy Awards next weekend. While fans are rooting for the film to bring home the only award it was nominated for, they’re still snubbing the film in the Best Picture category with the Academy Awards. The film did not even make it to the Best Foreign Film. However, did you know that this is not the first time Rajamouli faced rejection on the Oscar front?
Well, back in 2017, Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2: The Conclusion created a lot of Oscar buzz. Fans were expecting that it would be India’s official entry for the Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Film category that year. But much to the dismay of the fans, the film didn’t make the cut. Rajkummar Rao’s Newton was chosen instead.
Reacting to the turn of events, Rajamouli told IANS at the time, “(I am) not at all (disappointed at losing out in the Oscar race this year). When I make a film I am never about the award. Thinks. That’s not my aim. The aim is to first satisfy myself with the story and then see that it reaches the maximum number of viewers and makes money for all those who have put their lives into it.”
“That’s the most important thing to me. I’m happy if the awards come. If they don’t, I don’t mind because they don’t meet all my criteria.”
Fast forward to 2023 and Rajamouli is now set to walk the red carpet to attend the 95th Academy Awards alongside Ram Charan, Jr. NTR and MM Keeravani. While it remains to be seen whether Ram and Taarak set the stage on fire with their performance of Natu Natu, it has been learned that Rahul Sipligunj and Kaal Bhairav will be performing the song live at the Oscars.
