MANGALURU: Condition of former Union Minister and Rajya Sabha member Oscar Fernandes On the second day on Wednesday also, the serious situation remains. He was seriously injured after he accidentally fell during a routine exercise on Monday.
A confidant of Fernandes said that he is still on ventilator, but there is little improvement in his condition and movement in his hands and feet. The confidant said a neuro-surgeon from Manipal is monitoring his condition and is expected to operate on Thursday depending on his condition. The surgeon has indicated that his condition was stable for the operation on Wednesday.
The veteran Congress leader lost his balance during wall pushups and hitting the wall. On Tuesday, it was revealed that he had a clot in his brain when he went to his regular hospital where he underwent dialysis. He had told the doctor that he was having frequent headaches since the fall on Monday. He was immediately admitted by the hospital authorities after he was diagnosed with a clot in his brain.
The 80-year-old Fernandes was the Minister for Transport, Roads and Highways and Labor and Employment under the UPA government.
The respected politician is closely associated with Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. Fernandes, who became a minister for the first time in the UPA-II government, has worked in many important positions in the Manmohan Singh government and also in the party. Being the General Secretary of AICC in the UPA government was also a big leap in his career.
