KASHISH Film Festival, South Asia’s largest queer film festival, will witness the world premiere of “Pine Cone” directed by renowned filmmaker Onir, which will be the opening film of this year’s festival. There is a celebration of “pine cones”. Love within the LGBTQ community and a story that is a powerful advocate for their true representation in cinema.

Directed by Onir, an openly gay filmmaker who has consistently pushed boundaries and strived for authentic portrayals of queer experiences, “Pine Cone” promises to be a heartfelt exploration of love, relationships and self-discovery . Onir has a proven track record to build on. Iconic films that shed light on the challenges and triumphs of the LGBTQ community make her an invaluable voice in the industry.

“Pine Cone” features three stories told through the lens of the life of lead character Sid Mehra, as he navigates relationships in search of love. What sets this film apart is its unique narrative structure, in which the stories unfold in reverse chronological order. , till the year 2019, 2009 and 1999.

Talking about it, Onir said, “Pine Cone… is a very special film for me because the process started when the Ministry of Defense did not approve one of my scripts which was inspired by a real story. So we started working on this story in 2021 so that we can continue to tell our stories and overcome resistance to our identity. The pine cone comes from memories of love, loss, deceit, and forgiveness. Forgiving the world, that special someone and ourselves and celebrating the beauty of our journey…the rainbow journey”.

The screening of “Pine Cone” at Kashish Film Festival will take place on June 7, 2023, the opening day of the festival.
