Mangaluru/ Udupi: Much to the delight of his parents, 19-year-old Mranal, one of the students from Udupi who found himself marooned in Ukraine, is on his way home. Mranal, who arrived in New Delhi on Sunday, will be reunited with his family soon.
Mranal was one of the seven students who was left stranded in Ukraine following Russia‘s invasion of its western neighbour. Mranal, an MBBS student at the Ivano Frankivsk National Medical University, crossed the Ukraine border and found sanctuary in Romania, from whence he boarded a flight to New Delhi. Meanwhile, another student from Udupi, 20-year-old Niyam Raghavendra, pursuing medicine at the Vinnytsia National Pirogov Medical University, has reportedly crossed the border, finding his way into Romania. On the other hand, the Udupi district administration has been intimated that 19-year-old Glenwill Fernandes from Town national Medical University is in Ukraine and Anifred Ridly D’Souza, student at Kharkiv National Medical University, is currently staying at the varsity’s hostel, while 24-year-old Rohan Dhananjay Bagil was in Kharkiv.
Nandini Arun, 21, a student at the Odessa National Medical University, and Ankitha Jagadish Poojary, 22, a student at the VN Karazin Kharkiv National University, are the other youngsters from Udupi currently stranded in Ukraine.
On the other hand, 18 students from Kannada are still trapped in Ukraine. Sandhya M, whose daughter Anaina Anna is a student at Kharkiv National University, is understandably worried for the latter’s safety. “Anaina has sent messages that were forwarded to her from the consultancy. The message warns citizens against venturing out, and that the situation could worsen,” said Sandhya. The consultancy has also reportedly asked students to intimate them before they leave so that their parents could be kept abreast of the developments.
