Issues against power among farmers and common people were seen alive in every assembly seat. If someone talked about the farmers movement, someone said that Junior Teni is out, so are we to blame? This is the first assembly election in Uttar Pradesh after the farmers’ agitation on the Delhi border. Lakhimpur, the largest district of Uttar Pradesh, is situated on the Nepal border. This is a Terai region. The release on bail of Ashish Mishra, the son of the Union Minister, the main accused in the violence during the farmers’ agitation, is the biggest issue of Lakhimpur Kheri at the moment. First of all we talk about the Palia assembly of Lakhimpur Kheri. Most of the population here is Tharu tribals and Dalits. This is the assembly constituency along the Nepal border. Dudhwa National Park is also here. Palia has a vote share of 40,000 Tharu and 80,000 Dalits. The main issue here is only roads, because every year there are floods and roads break. By road it takes one hour to travel 15 kms. Samajwadi Party has fielded Pritendra Singh Kakku as its candidate and in front of him is Harvinder Singh (Omi Sahni) from BJP. There is a tussle between the two. Harvinder Singh’s personal image is slightly better. He is considered a leader among the people.
Nighasan: Crushing of farmers and bail of Teni is a big issue
Nighasan assembly seat is the most talked about seat. This is the same area where farmers were killed in Tikonia after a Thar car hit them. This area is the stronghold of the Sardars who came from Punjab. They are counted among the big farmers. Nighasan is also known as Mini Punjab. The most impact of the peasant movement is being seen in this area.
Farmer Ram Singh Dhillon said that the bail of the minister’s son Ashish is absolutely out of tolerance.

No BJP candidate is going to Nighasan due to fear
Jaskaran Singh Jassa in Bajranggarh village of Nighasan says that this is the first time that no BJP candidate has come to our village for election campaign. BJP candidate Punjabi Sardar is so scared of farmers’ stronghold that he does not even dare to go there. Jassa says that Ashish’s hasty bail bail will cost the government. Farmer Pawan Kashyap is the brother of journalist Raman Kashyap. Raman was also killed in the farmer violence. Congress had also offered to make Pawan an election candidate, but Pawan refused. In fact, the bail of Ashish Teni has been challenged in the Supreme Court under the banner of United Kisan Morcha on behalf of all the farmer families killed in the Lakhimpur farmer violence. Pawan Kashyap says that all the families are busy in this matter. Farming is not available only from agriculture and court-courts.
Pawan says that all the farmers are here. On that day also there was a program of the farmers where the farmers were trampled like insects. Obviously this is going to have a bad effect on the election. Even everyone is losing faith in justice that how can he get bail so soon, when he is the main accused in the incident.
Ramdayal says that not only the Tikoniya incident, the issue of road and MSP has also been raised by the farmers in the talks.
Mohammadi: MSP price of paddy is a big issue
Talking about the issues in the Mohammadi assembly, the issue of mining is the biggest here. Apart from this, there is also an issue of non-availability of MSP price of paddy. Actually, the MSP of paddy is Rs 1940, but the government is not buying it at this price. It is being bought by middlemen and private rice sellers for Rs 800 to 1100 a quintal. Because of this, the farmers cultivating paddy are angry with the government. Farmer Harmir Singh says that rich farmers sell paddy in tractor trolleys to Punjab and Haryana, but other farmers have to sell paddy to middlemen here.
Looking at the political equations here, the Samajwadi Party made Dawood Ahmed, a resident of Lucknow, a candidate from the Samajwadi Party at the last moment, while it was decided till the last moment that Karthik Tiwari would be given ticket from here. There are 80,000 Muslims, while there are 40,000 Brahmin voters. Wherever the Brahmin goes, the candidate wins. The main face-to-face fight is between Dawood Ahmed and BJP candidate Lokendra Pratap Singh.
Sadar assembly seat: mining in Sharda river is a big issue
Samajwadi Party’s Utkarsh Verma is in the fray from Sadar seat while Yogesh Verma is in the fray from BJP. The specialty of Sadar seat is that these two candidates are close relatives.
