Varanasi: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) 4.641kg . succeeded in recovering Sleep A smuggler from Tripura worth Rs 2.28 crore was arrested from the Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani Express train at Varanasi Junction in the early hours of Thursday.
Anand Kumar Rai, senior intelligence officer of DRI’s Varanasi unit, said his team included intelligence officers after receiving information regarding the movement of tax evaders. Article Secrets and others caught a passenger, identified as Sudeep Lion From Agartala, Tripura, by Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani Express when it reached Varanasi Junction.
He said that on search of Singh’s belongings, the DRI recovered 28 pieces of foreign origin weighing 4641.430 grams of gold worth Rs 2,28,35,836. The DRI arrested Singha and confiscated the recovered gold under the Customs Act, 1962. He was sent to jail after being produced in the district court. During preliminary interrogation, Singha revealed that the gold was smuggled into New Delhi from Myanmar via the Moreh border.
