India’s U-19 World Cup 2022 campaign has not been smooth at all. Captain Yash Dhull and several other players tested positive for COVID-19 during the tournament. The Indian team management, at one point, was even struggling to name the first XI. Team India finally pulled off an epic comeback by claiming the World Cup title. India’s Raj Bawa produced a match-winning all-round performance in the summit clash to earn silverware for his team.

As the India Under-19 cricket team celebrates their fifth World Cup title win today, it is time to take a look back at their performance in the final.

England captain Tom Purst won the toss and decided to bowl first. However, the decision backfired as England lost seven wickets for only 91 runs. James Ray was the only man in the English batting unit who managed to handle the Indian bowlers successfully.

Ray’s brilliant innings of 95 helped England reach a mammoth total of 189. India’s Raj Bawa bowled brilliantly, taking five wickets in the final. Bawa conceded only 31 runs in his 9.5 overs. His 5/31 also proved to be the best bowling figures for any player in an U-19 World Cup final. Ravi Kumar also excelled with the ball with four important wickets under his belt.

India’s run chase suffered an early setback when opener Angkrish Raghuvanshi went back to the dressing room for a duck off the second ball of the innings. Shaikh Rashid emerged as India’s savior after claiming a crucial half-century. Nishant Sindhu remained unbeaten on 50 as India comfortably scored the winning run with 14 balls to spare.

Raj Bawa was adjudged man of the match for his brilliant all-round performance. Devald Brewis of South Africa was named Player of the Tournament. Brewis became the top scorer of the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2022 with 506 runs.
