According to an official communication, other companies of Rapid Action Force (RAF) and paramilitary forces will reach Punjab by March 6 and will remain there till March 16.

On the request of the Punjab government, the Center has decided to send additional Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel to maintain law and order and assist the local police in the state.

Sources said the decision has been taken keeping in view the prevailing situation and the upcoming event Hola Mohalla, where Nihangs gather.

Hola Mohalla, pro-Khalistani sentiments

Hola Mohalla is a three-day Sikh festival where they gather in huge numbers at Hola Mohalla in Punjab. Nihangs showed their skills during the programme.

Sources said that the Punjab government is apprehensive that pro-Khalistani sentiments may be incited during the program and it needs to be stopped.

According to sources, this year’s festival will also be challenging for the Punjab Police.

Sources said around 30-40 companies are likely to be approved for Punjab, but for how long they will be there is not clear.

These troops will arrive from different places, mostly around Punjab.

Although the officials claimed that Punjab had asked for more troops, which could not be met, adequate troops have been sanctioned as per the requirement.

Central intelligence agencies have also issued an alert regarding this incident and the alert has been shared with all concerned agencies and Punjab Police.

Intelligence agencies have also expressed concern over the law and order situation in Punjab due to pro-Khalistani sentiments in some areas.
