On Set with Tim Burton: Here’s What Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Cast Says About His Vision And Filmmaking – News18

Tim Burton has long been celebrated as a director with a distinct vision, crafting films like Batman, Edward Scissorhands and Big Fish that have left a mark on cinema. Among his most celebrated works is the 1988 classic, Beetlejuice, which won an Oscar and became a cult favourite.

For years, fans eagerly awaited a sequel, and now that anticipation has turned into reality.

The film’s sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice had its grand debut at the Venice Film Festival this week, where it was met with positive early reviews.

Recently, ComicBook sat down with some of the film’s stars, including Jenna Ortega and Catherine O’Hara, to talk about the experience on set, particularly the elements that made it so unmistakably Burton.

When asked about the “most Tim Burton thing” on set, O’Hara responded, “The whole environment. It starts with his drawings, the lopsided floors and walls, the just beautiful images, live puppetry and great effects– in-camera effects. He just gives you as much of the final visuals as you can get on a set.”

Ortega added that it was incredibly informative. “When actors describe putting on good wardrobe and hair and makeup and they feel themselves start to change the way they move. It’s so informative. And it’s so rare that you’re able to reflect on or get inspired by the scene, the scenery that’s going on around you. So I think that that was, ‘Oh okay, I have a little bit of a better idea where I am now,’ which is great,” she said.

O’Hara continued by saying that Burtona is really good, playful boss too. “Very spontaneous, really spontaneous and creative. He really keeps you on your toes,” she said.

Michael Keaton, who reprises his iconic titular role also recalled his discussions with Burton about the sequel. “We were talking about it years and years ago, never telling anybody. I said, ‘If it happens, first of all, we’ve both said we’re doing it many times. We both agreed, if it happens, it has to be done as close to the way we made it the first time. Making stuff up, making stuff happen, improvising and riffing, but literally handmade stuff like people creating things with their hands and building something,” he explained.

The official synopsis of the film reads, “After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened.”

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will be released in theatres on September 6.
