Bollywood Fans get to know about some of the most whirlwind romances ever in history. Filmmaker-producer Boney Kapoor and actress Sridevi’s love story is one that endured every conceivable obstacle and emerged victorious in the end. As with any difficult love story, the pairing was also full of turmoil, drama, and opposition from family and others. To begin with, Boney was married to Mona Shourie Kapoor when he had always fallen head over heels for the so beautiful Sridevi.
There have been many descriptions of their epic romance over the years. However, during the India Today Women Summit 2013, Boney revisited the journey and how it all began. In his own words, he was completely infatuated with Sridevi when Boney saw her for the first time. No one thought that what started out as love at first sight would turn into one of the strongest relationships ever.
It was somewhere in the 70s when Sridevi actively appeared in Tamil films. It was then that Boney saw her on screen for the first time and wished to cast her in one of his films. He somehow managed to get Sridevi on board for Mr India, directed by Shekhar Kapur. Boney was the producer of the film under the leadership of his brother Anil Kapoor.
Bonnie admitted that this was the time when she was on his mind all the time. Being an introvert, it took some time for Sridevi to open up to her. Nevertheless, he was carried away by her. He also admitted that in order to woo Sridevi, he began to impress his mother, who was then managing his professional commitments. The first time he had the actress’ mother by his side, when he agreed to pay Sridevi more than he was asked for for a film.
Boney said, ‘I confessed to my ex-wife that I love her. I couldn’t hold myself back.” Boney, who is madly in love, went to Switzerland just to see Sridevi, who was shooting for Chandni at the time. Only now, after seeing her persistence, Sridevi begins to avenge her feelings. Boney stood like a rock in the difficult times of Sridevi.When the actress lost her father and later her mother, she supported her in every way.
The couple finally got married in 1996 in a simple ceremony. They had two daughters – Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor. Sridevi passed away just before Janhvi’s Bollywood debut in the 2018 film Dhadak.
Boney was shattered after Sridevi’s sudden death due to accidental drowning in Dubai on February 24. After her funeral, Bonnie wrote a heartbreaking parting letter remembering his beloved wife. “To the world she was his moonlight…but to me she was my love, my friend, the mother of our girls…my companion.”
