Omkara Clock 15: Vivek Oberoi remembers shooting song Bidi Jalaile on winter night

As ‘Omkara’ completes 15 years of its release, actor Vivek Oberoi shared some anecdotes from the film while walking through the memories. the director Vishal BhardwajOmkara revolves around Omkara Shukla (Ajay Devgan), a half-caste outlaw who kidnaps his girlfriend Dolly Mishra.Kareena Kapoor Khan) from his family. Apart from the performances of the actors, the film also became famous for its songs, most notably the foot-tapping ‘Bidi Jalail’. Recalling the shooting of the song, Vivek said: “It was magical how that song came about. Vishal Bhai wanted to compose a song for a special moment in the film. He went to Gulzar saab and asked him to write the song. Vishal bhai’s brief description of Did he want a ‘hit song’. Not only should it be a good song, but it should also be a hit song. Immediately Gulzar sahab came up with the lines, and everyone replied that we had one is the winner.” The song was shot during winters in Uttar Pradesh.

“It was a cold evening and we shot the whole night. This was the first time I saw everyone dancing on their feet and dancing to the beat of the song while the song was playing. Ganesh Acharya choreographed the song. Were were Bipasa Basu, Saif Ali Khan, Deepak Dobriyal and I were dancing in the song. And whenever that song played, not just us, literally everyone would move. It was bitter cold and midnight, and in spite of all this this song won everyone’s heart. No matter how tired they are or how cold they are, everyone will dance. It was something special to see,” he said.

The 2006 film Omkara was Vishal Bhardwaj’s take on Shakespeare’s Othello and cast Ajay Devgn in the lead role – with Kareena Kapoor playing his love interest. The cast of the film also included actors like Konkona Sen Sharma and Naseeruddin Shah. Omkara received three National Awards for the team, including one for Vishal Bhardwaj.
