Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain owns the ramp at North East Festival – Times of India

She impressed us at the 2020 Summer Olympics and is now rocking the ramp. Ace boxer and Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain left everyone asking for more as she walked the ramp at the North East Festival.

Lovlina wore a traditional Assamese sari of mulberry silk ‘paat’ and completely ruled the ramp.

Khiladi was the showstopper for the wedding collection of designer duo Vidyut and Rakesh which was recently showcased at the ongoing 9th North East Festival here.

“Lovelina Borgohain wore a dark maroon silk sari with rose gold sifina zari work and a silk shawl with traditional Assamese embellishments,” Vidyut Vikas Bhagwati told PTI.

“The magical hands of the weavers of Assam add color and joy to the new journey of a ‘koina’ or an Assamese bride. The fabric full of smooth mulberry silk ‘paat’ and the beautiful colored sifina and zari work gives it a more elegant look,” he said.

Bhagwati said she and co-designer Rakesh Chetia tried to give a new dimension to the traditional clothing worn by Assamese bride and groom.

“The rose gold sifina zari work that we did for Lovlina Borgohain’s dress dates back to the days of the Mughals,” he said.

Borgohain and internationally acclaimed actor Adil Hussain from Assam were also honored at the ceremony. Hussain covered a distance of a few steps with the champion boxer on the ramp.

Borgohain said he thoroughly enjoyed the experience, although his main aim is to win a gold medal at the Olympics. In last year’s Tokyo Games, she won a bronze medal in the 69kg category.

The evening was accompanied by live music performances by Zubeen Garg of “Ya Ali” fame and the Cultivators Band as well as Wangla dance by Garo Art and Culture of NEZCC Meghalaya, danced to the beats of Manipur Band among others. With inputs from PTI
