Surat: Two 12-year-old boys were crushed to death after a sugar cane loaded tractor trolley overturned near Sena rivulet bridge in Olpad taluka of Surat on Monday.
The deceased Mohammad Nabil Abdul Shaikh and his friend Sayhan Sajid Shaikhboth were residents of Olpad.
According to police, the tractor trailer loaded with sugar cane was mounted on a jack after one of its tires got punctured. The driver had removed the tire and had gone to fix its puncture. Meanwhile, when the two boys were passing by on their bicycle, another tractor loaded with sugar cane crossing the road knocked the trailer of the parked tractor and the jack came off. The sugar cane laden trailer overturned crushed the two boys.
Police have registered an offense against an unidentified driver of the tractor who had fled from the accident spot. The driver was booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The complaint was lodged by Aarif Shaikh, uncle of the deceased Nabil.
In another accident, a 19-year-old girl died after she was run over by a tractor trailer loaded with cement bags in Sithan village of Olpad taluka on Monday. The deceased Sarika Parmar and her family members were sitting in the trolley loaded with cement when it overturned. Parmar’s other family members somehow managed to jump out of the trolley in time. Her father lodged the complaint of rash driving and causing death by Neglige against his son Manish, who was driving the tractor. The family was going to deliver the cement at a construction site.
