NCB is probing several high-profile drug cases

New Delhi:

The officer of a narcotics agency in Delhi, which has handled six cases handled by Mumbai-based anti-drug officer Sameer Wankhede, has previously worked with the Central Bureau of Investigation as Deputy Inspector General.

Sanjay Kumar Singh, a 1996 batch Odisha cadre Indian Police Service officer, will handle six cases, including the Mumbai drug-on-cruise case. He is presently Deputy Director General (Operations) of Narcotics Control Bureau or NCB.

Mr Singh also headed the Anti-Drug Task Force at the Twin Cities Commissionerate in Odisha. When he was with the CBI, he supervised the team that investigated the 2010 Commonwealth Games scam.

The six drug cases transferred to the team headed by Mr Singh include the Aryan Khan case and five other sensitive cases which are said to be linked to several Bollywood celebrities.

Wankhede has been at the center of a major controversy over the arrest of actor Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan from a cruise off the Mumbai coast. Leaders of the ruling Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party had accused the zonal director of the NCB of preparing false cases to malign the image of Bollywood and Maharashtra.

Mr Wankhede today clarified that he has not been removed from the investigation of these cases. “I have not been removed from the investigation. My writ petition in the court was that the matter should be investigated by a central agency. Hence Aryan (Khan) case and Sameer Khan case are being investigated by the Special Investigation Team of Delhi NCB. This is a coordination between the NCB teams of Delhi and Mumbai,” Mr Wankhede told news agency ANI today.

In the statement signed by Mr Singh, the NCB also said that no officers have been removed from their current roles. In a statement tweeted by ANI, NCB said, “Unless a specific order to the contrary is issued, they will continue to assist the Operations Branch in the investigation. It is reiterated that NCB is a unified agency across India.” serves as.”
