Prime Video has introduced a female lead for the first time in the Australian adaptation of The Office.

Are you a fan of The Office? Amazon Prime Video is here with yet another adaptation of the beloved show. The popular American TV series aired from 2005 to 2013, emerging as a leading programme and receiving amazing ratings throughout the seasons. As the 13th iteration of the global hit franchise, Prime Video’s latest Australian version comes forward with a female lead for the first time. Felicity Ward takes over as Hannah Howard, the new managing director of Flinley Craddick.

The trailer begins with Ward’s character making an announcement, “As of today, we are all back in the office full-time,” only to meet with a lot of unhappy reactions.

The overall show is expected to revolve around how Hannah goes into survival mode after hearing about her branch’s shutdown from the headquarters, which prompts everyone to work from home. Keeping up the high spirits and encouragement intact, she makes tough promises and does everything in her power to keep the “work family” together.

On the other hand, the chaos intensifies after Flinley Craddick’s staff indulges her, trying to endure her plots as they work towards the nearly impossible targets.

Co-produced by BBC Studios Australia & New Zealand, Bunya Entertainment, and Amazon MGM Studios, the series was developed for Australia by writers Julie De Fina and Jackie van Beek, with the duo also serving as executive producers.

Notably, the Australian version follows the previous 12 versions in France, Canada, India, Israel and other countries. Earlier this year, a new iteration of The Office was picked up at Peacock as a new mockumentary show with a new cast set in the same universe. While everyone knows the OG US version, starring Steve Carell as Michael Scott, it is now to be seen if the lady boss can equally lead The Office.

In a few early reactions, the trailer has received mixed reviews on YouTube, with not many happy with the latest remake. One wrote, “This is the Raygun version of The Office,” while another said, “They look and sound like they are trying too hard to be funny. There doesn’t feel like there’s the candidness of a documentary either.” “Why is the set dressed like it’s 2000? I assume the reference to all coming back to the office means the show occurs in the current day. This does not bode well,” a comment read.

The eight-part Australian Amazon Original series is ready to premiere on October 18 on Prime Video.
