Bhubaneswar: Two day raid on the properties of Assistant Engineer by Vigilance Directorate Santosh Kumar Das A record Rs 41.77 lakh cash has been recovered in Mayurbhanj on Friday.
This is the highest ever seizure of ‘wrongfully acquired’ money from a government employee in the state.
Vigilance on Thursday launched raids at the houses of Das and his relatives at 11 places in Balasore, Mayurbhanj and Bhubaneswar on charges of possessing assets disproportionate to their known and legitimate sources of income.

Das (56), who is drawing a monthly salary of around Rs 72,000, will be arrested on Saturday.
Investigation is on to find out from where Das got the huge amount.
“We seized Rs 41.77 lakh in cash. Rs 13.6 lakh in cash was seized from Das’s son-in-law’s house in Balasore, while Rs 28.17 lakh in cash was seized from Das’s residence in Balasore. The money confiscated from the son-in-law’s house belongs to Das. We have also recovered 659 grams of gold and huge immovable property in the name of Das and his family members.
Contrary to the recovery of bundles of cash from an official’s drainage pipe in Karnataka on Wednesday, Odisha Vigilance The officials confiscated Das’s cash from the cupboard.
“Neither he nor his son-in-law had hidden the bundles of cash at some undisclosed location. Huge cash was kept in the cupboard,” the official said.
Earlier on November 9, vigilance officers seized Rs 38.12 lakh in cash from the house of Pratap Kumar Samal, former deputy manager of Odisha Police Housing and Welfare Corporation.
During the vigilance raid, Samal had allegedly thrown around Rs 20 lakh in cash on his neighbor’s terrace.
The detection of movable and immovable assets (DA) worth Rs 14.87 crore in Samal’s name is still at an all-time high in the state.
