The company said it has set up an exclusive claims helpdesk and done away with the need for death certificates issued by municipal authorities.
To provide support to the families who lost their members in the recent train accident in Balasore, Odisha, Aviva India Life Insurance has announced that the insurer has taken steps to ease the claim settlement and documentation process.
These steps include accepting alternative valid proof of death and providing support to bereaved family members during this critical period.

The company said it has set up a ‘special claims helpdesk’ and done away with the need for death certificates issued by municipal authorities. Instead, they will accept casualty lists published by Railway Board/Police Authorities/State Government or Central Government or Municipal Authority, or any authority recognized by the State/Central Government, confirming death during train accident.

To provide prompt assistance during this time, we have simplified the claim settlement process and set up an exclusive claims helpdesk to expedite the process.”
“We have also waived off the requirement of death certificate issued by the municipal authorities. Instead, we will accept the list of casualties confirmed by the Railway Board/Police Authorities/State Government or Central Government or Municipal Authority or any authority recognized by the State/Central Government to have died during a train accident.
The simplified claim notification requirements are as follows:
- Claim intimation letter from Nominee/Beneficiary
- Attested copy of bank passbook or canceled check of nominee/beneficiary
- Attested copy of photo identity card of the nominee/beneficiary establishing relationship with the insured
Recently, National Insurer LIC also announced Several relaxations in the claim settlement process for the victims of the Balasore train tragedy.
