Odisha signs MoU with Save Life Foundation to improve road safety Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

Bhubaneswar: The State Transport Authority (STA) signed an agreement on Thursday Memorandum of understanding located in Delhi. with Save Life Foundation (SLF), an NGO working in the field of road safety, to reduce accident deaths.
The SLF has been tasked to identify accident prone stretches, find out the causes of accidents and recommend remedial measures to create a ‘zero fatal corridor’ in the state. The STA said the MoU aims to reduce road accidents in the next three years.
“Road safety is a very high priority area for us. SLF has improved the road safety situation in various states. I am sure that our joint efforts will bring good results. Orissa Too. Once remedial measures are suggested and implemented, we expect the mortality rate to come down by around 30-50 per cent,” STA President and Transport Commissioner Arun Bothra said.
SLF founder and CEO Piyush Tiwari said his agency will work on a ‘zero-fatal corridor’ model through 360-degree interventions in engineering, emergency trauma care, enforcement and education.
The development came close on the heels of the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik To launch a road safety initiative under the banner of Rakshak – First Responder Training Program on 10th November. At least 30,000 volunteers, living or working in eateries and various commercial establishments located near accident-prone locations, are being trained as first responders to road accidents. ,
It is to be noted that road accident related deaths in the state have increased by almost 21% from 3,931 deaths in 2014 to 4,738 in 2020. Despite this Supreme court The Road Safety Committee has directed the state government to reduce it to 50% by 2020.
According to the Transport Department, the accident fatality rate increased by an unusually 25% in the first half of 2021 compared to the first six months of 2020, despite the Covid-induced lockdown.
Aware of the alarming rise in road accident deaths in Odisha, the Center recently urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to consider adopting a road safety model. Tamil Nadu, which has been successful in reducing the accident mortality rate by 54% in the last five years.
