Odisha receives 75 per cent less rainfall in August so far: IMD report Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

Bhubaneswar: The state has received 75 per cent less rainfall till Monday this month. monsoon dominated the state for nine consecutive days, IMD said on Monday.
Similarly, the total rainfall deficit reached 28% during the monsoon period from June till now, with 20 out of 30 districts facing such deficiency. The official report of the IMD said that the rainfall deficit in Bhadrak, Balangir, Gajapati and Jajpur has gone up to more than 40%.
The IMD further indicated that the weak monsoon is likely to continue for the next four-five days and there is no chance of major rains across the state. HR Vishwas, director of the regional IMD centre, said, “There will be light to moderate rain in a sporadic manner for the next two days. Thereafter, there will be a slight increase in the rainfall activity over the state for two days and then reduce again.

However, Sahu, former director of the regional IMD centre, said that areas of north Odisha are likely to receive ‘moderate’ rains for the next three days from August 10, due to the influence of an upper air trough over the region.
Similarly, rain is expected over parts of the state from August 16-19, mostly over south Odisha areas, due to the influence of a cyclonic circulation. The senior meteorologist said the possible system could intensify further.
