Odisha: Police arrests 3 in connection with murder of journalist’s son

The Commissionerate Police on Saturday busted the murder mystery of Manish Anurag, son of senior journalist Naveen Das, by arresting three friends of the deceased in the case. The three persons are – Amrit Ketan Biswal, associate of deceased Manish Anurag, and his two friends Dinesh Kumar Mohapatra and Mrityunjay Mishra of Kandhamal district.

While addressing the press conference, the DCP said that the complaint of kidnapping of Manish was lodged by his father at Infocity police station on Sunday (October 10) morning. During the investigation of the case, Manish’s body was recovered from the pond located at Namkani temple of Bhagwanpur village of Tamando police station area.

“On October 9, Manish had met Amrit, Dinesh and Mrityunjay at around 5.30 pm at Infocity area. Accompanied by three people, he went to a restaurant in Laxmisagar area and from there, four people headed towards a hotel in Patrapada in the early hours of Sunday. They got into an argument over paying the bill inside the hotel. The verbal fight between them continued outside the hotel as well after which the trio attacked Manish. After he fell, the three accused dumped the body in a pond in the area to destroy the evidence,” the DCP said.

“The mobile phone of the deceased Manish is yet to be traced. Investigation is going on. We will pray before the court to take the three accused on remand for further interrogation. A case has been registered against all the accused under sections 364A, 302, 201 and 34 of the IPC.

No injury marks have been found on Manish’s body, but it is believed that he died due to beating of his associates during the assault. “We are waiting for the post-mortem report. The CCTV footage revealed that the trio were present with Manish before his death. We have an eyewitness who saw the accused in wet clothes after the incident.
