A trainee pilot was injured after a VT-EUW aircraft crashed while landing at Birsal airstrip at a training session in Odisha on Monday afternoon, news agency ANI reported.

Aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said the plane’s propeller and nose wheel were damaged in the accident.

The trainee was involved in a single circuit, the aviator general said. A senior DGCA official said that the student pilot has been taken to the hospital and the Directorate General has started an inquiry into the incident.

Birsal airstrip is about 50 km from Dhenkanal city of Odisha.

GATI, a DGCA-approved flight training organization, has a fleet of Pipistrel SW121 aircraft, Cessna 172s and a Piper Seneca V multi-engine aircraft.
