Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister latest Patnaik on Sunday announced the expansion of the state’s flagship health insurance scheme Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana).BSKY) to cover 96 lakh families – from about 71.69 lakh families at present.
Out of the total 4.5 crore population of the state, about 3.5 crore people will get it soon. smart health card under the scheme.
Announcing this at the state level function of 75th Independence Day here, Naveen said that this initiative will transform the healthcare delivery system and create history in the health sector of the country. He said that this step would usher in a new era in the health sector of the state.
“All the people of entire Odisha are my family. It pains me to hear about people being stopped from selling land, jewelery or sending children to school for medical treatment. So I decided that this kind of crisis must go away. People should get hassle free quality treatment at the best available health care facilities. Hence the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana was revamped to provide smart health cards to the people which would work as a debit card for a fixed amount,” Naveen said.
Odisha has not implemented the Centre’s flagship scheme, Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) and instead launched its own scheme BSKY three years ago on August 15, 2018.
Government sources said that from September 1, cards will be given to all the beneficiaries in a phased manner. National and State Food Security Schemes, to cover the beneficiaries of Annapurna and Antyodaya Anna Yojana in the scheme.
Beneficiaries of Biju Krishak Kalyan Yojana till now, Below Poverty Line (BPL) and antyodaya Card holders and those with an income of less than Rs 2 lakh covered under BSKY were part of the scheme.
While each family can avail the cost of treatment up to Rs 5 lakh per year, female members can avail up to Rs 10 lakh per year. Beneficiaries can avail health services in over 200 hospital chains in Odisha and beyond.
The government has empaneled 183 hospitals within the state and 17 outside. The government will enlist more hospitals of national repute outside the state to provide cashless care to the BSKY card holders.
