Bhubaneswar: East Coast Railway (ECOR) A. Track restoration work has been expedited after the derailment of wheat laden goods train in between finger and Talcher Road station on Tuesday. It can complete the repair work by Thursday morning.
The train derailed near Angul at around 2.35 am on Tuesday as flash floods caused by torrential rains weakened the base of the railway track near a bridge over a creek. ECoR has expedited the restoration work where nine wagons of the train overturned. Apart from this, a wagon also derailed.
East Coast Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Kaushalendra Kishore Kharanga said restoration work is going on on a war footing. “We have used various tools along with a road crane to clear the track. Since the engine was in poor condition, the repair team took more time to get the engine off the track,” he said.
All the 10 damaged wagons were removed from the track by 6.30 pm on Wednesday. Since the affected section is single line, many trains were canceled and diverted on Tuesday and Wednesday. Four trains- Durg-Puri Special, Puri-Durg Special, Puri-Hatia Special and Hatia-Puri Special were canceled on Wednesday. Three trains were diverted to another route.
ECoR has also decided to cancel six trains for Thursday. These were Rourkela-Bhubaneswar Inter City Special, Bhubaneshwar-Rourkela Inter City Special, Bhubaneshwar-Balangir Inter City Special, Balangir-Bhubaneswar Inter City Special, Rourkela-Puri Special and Puri-Rourkela Special. Puri-Indore Special Due to this restoration work was rescheduled.
He said, “All the ten wagons of the derailed train have been stopped. ECoR Communications said, “Efforts are on to restore the engine of the train by taking all safety precautions.”
